Mission, Values & Beliefs

Mission, Values and Beliefs

We are dedicated to improving the well-being for all individuals and families in our communities through holistic care practices, education, support, advocacy and the advancement of research.

In pursuit of our Mission, we strive to:

Increase the understanding of mental health including the mind-body connection between mental and physical health.
Increase the knowledge base of expressive therapies and how expression through the arts provides an internal working model of regulation for life-long health.
Assure that those who are seeking information and need mental health care referrals have confidential access to the appropriate information and know how to obtain care.
Provide education and opportunities for individuals to identify the early warning signs of mental illness and subsequently provide programs which support resilience, growth and healing.
Provide continuing education in collaboration with our partner institute for professional development and advanced training or certification in specialized areas of ethical care practices.
Work collaboratively with our partners to advance the knowledge of evidenced based practices for holistic interventions with the pursuit of fundamentally changing the lives of those impacted by stress and mental health issues.
Advocate for improved support and treatment at every level: local, state and federal, wherever reform is needed.

Firefly Institute Values

Our values are the set of core beliefs that guide our actions and behavior. We live our values – they influence the way we treat our clients, engage with our stakeholders and how we work and interact with our colleagues within and outside of Firefly.

Dignity: Every person, regardless of their disability, race, ethnicity, gender, age, economic status, or sexual orientation, has the right and responsibilities to access their full potential in our society, the right to be treated with dignity, compassion, respect free from stigma and prejudice.
Self-determination: Honor the self-determination, inherent strengths and capacity for growth of all clients we serve.
Integrity: We adhere to ethical principles of practice at all times.
Balance: Mental health is essential to personal well-being, and is fundamental to achieving a healthy, balanced, and productive life.
Family: Collaboration with client families offers a powerful return on investment for treatment. Whenever possible family support is promoted and supported to provide depth in the healing process.
Knowledge: We are lifelong learners who strive to continue our education ensuring we have knowledge of the most current research in neuroscience, healthcare practices and interventions available.
Training: Firefly clinicians continuously train and work towards certification of their specialties under the supervision of recognized experts in the field.
Advocacy: Firefly persistently advocates for treatment and services for those who need them and do so on a micro, mezzo and macro level.
Trauma Informed Services: We promote community understanding of the impact of trauma and adverse life experiences on the mind and body
Health: The goal of treatment is health and wellness; it is important for individuals and families to be an integral part of the process – decisions, programs and support groups.
Investment: We invest in our communities by seeking out under-served populations, providing pro-bono services and striving to align resources with those in need.

We recognize achievement of our vision depends on the combined dedication, creativity and compassion of our staff, community partners, and those we serve.

Firefly Institute Vision Statement

We believe in a future which improves the lives of all people. Firefly is committed to advocacy for vulnerable populations and engages in activism for social justice and social change.

We envision a holistic practice of wellness incorporating a mind-body connection to treatment which becomes the client’s internal working model for regulation, achieving life-long health. This is what we envision to become the model for our communities, our nation and world. We are an organization that recognizes mental health as an essential part of overall well being. We understand that trauma and mental illness, like physical illness, is a medically treatable condition. We understand that trauma and mental illness can occur in any life and those who experience trauma or mental illness can return to good health. As a result, there is no room for stigma in our society. Our clinic’s model for mental well-being is the direct result of a robust collection of research and treatment options which includes: movement and expressive therapies, education services to clients and the professional community and research to support practice. This portfolio of services continuously evolves to meet the changing needs and priorities of all people.

We develop and deliver support services that are demonstrably effective and efficient in meeting the changing needs of our state and country. Reflecting our value for collaboration and our reputation as a good partner, we work with others to leverage our collective capabilities to strengthen the greater good.

Intense determination, up to date knowledge and highly regarded services gives us the credibility to advocate for the mental health community. Advocating to influence decision makers, we can promote decisions, policies and beliefs that further improve mental well-being. Firefly clinicians further this goal by working at state and national level settings as advocates for research and policy.

Our ability to make these contributions rests on a set of goals that reflect our values, knowledge, and performance thus creating our vision for future organizational growth:

Supporting our staff’s professional growth and work to fund educational opportunities. Our vision is to have the most highly skilled and trained clinicians providing the best care possible. We seek to create a legacy through the education of others in the field; our clinical staff invest in the education of students and professionals through mentorship and training.
Effective use of technology to utilize multiple communication channels and increase our outreach.

We value the fundamental need for continued research within the field of mental health. The Firefly Institute is designed to continue to investigate the integrated care practices of mental health services we offer to ensure quality and evidence based benchmarks are being reached.

We thank you for your continued support as we grow and develop a bright future!
